Under a pleasant August sun, around 100 people gathered last week at the old Balman Hook Ranch at Hillside to take part in the yearly Beers and Brats gathering held by Colorado Open Lands. Those invited have long been the foundation of land conservation in the region, working to prevent large tracts of land from being overly developed and saving valuable agricultural land for future generations. The highlight of the event is the presentation of the Alice Proctor Outstanding Supporter of the Year Award. The award is given in memory of Alice Proctor, who made immeasurable contributions to the formation of the land trust and helped establish the original San Isabel Land Protection Trust, which merged with Colorado Open Lands in 2021.
