Ā Just a year ago, the Tribune reported a sigĀnificant archeological findāa hand laid rock formation, possibly Ute, marking either trail direction or a sacred placeāon the sprawlĀing Bear Basin Ranch property east of the towns. Then this spring, the Tribune published an account of the ranch owner and operaĀtor, extreme archeologist and former Custer County acting Sheriff Gary Ziegler, literally stumbling across a Paleolithic projectile point. Now, as yet another reminder of our living on lands once freely wandered by Native Americans, Ziegler has added an additional site to his catalogue of probable Ute stone constructions scattered across Bear Basin Ranch.
