The 11th Judicial District Attorneyâs Office, along with the Custer County Sheriffâs Office, announced last week that Nancy Rae Medina-Kochis had been indicted by a grand jury for three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of unlawful purchase of a firearm, and one count of tampering with physical evidence.
Nancy Rae had been charged with being an accomplice to Hanme Clark when the two of them fled Custer County on November 20, 2023, after the triple murder at Rocky Ridge Road. That court case has been dragging on for years and had been set for trial later this year.
However, District Attorney Jeff Lindsey had presented evidence to a grand jury in Fremont County sometime in the past year. Lindsey presented evidence that Nancy Rae had purchased a handgun for Hanme Clark in the past, and it was that gun that he had used to kill three people on that tragic day. Clark had been convicted of a felony of dealing marijuana over 20 years ago, and felons in Colorado are not allowed to own firearms.
Under Colorado law, a person who purchases a gun on behalf of someone else, or provides a weapon knowing it will be used in a crime, can be charged as a co-conspirator or as an accomplice to murder.
During a hearing on Monday, June 8, Nancy Rae appeared virtually from the Weld County jail. Her bond has been set at $2 million, and a bond hearing is set for early July.
