Westcliffe resident announces bid for Colorado Senate District 4

As the 2026 election season gets underway, local Westcliffe resident Jennifer James has announced a bid for Colorado Senate District 4, as the current Senator, Mark Baisley, is running for the U.S. Senate this year.

In a press release sent to the Tribune, James states, “I am Jennifer James, a semi-retired healthcare provider and transplant from the conservative state of Wyoming. I am now a resident of Westcliffe, where I reside with my veteran husband and seven dogs. While living in Wyoming for many years, I ran unsuccessfully as a Republican for the Wyoming House of Representatives.”

She will be running as a Republican and stated her goals for office. “It is my intention to bring my fiscally conservative values and Christian morals while upholding the Republican Party Platform once elected. My 30 years of experience in healthcare and formal education in law (Loyola University School of Law) and policy development (Harvard University) enable me to understand the long-term impact of draft legislation on Coloradans and make me an excellent Republican Party representative. My primary goals are to bring transparency to my decisions as your Legislator and to remain incorruptible by not accepting any donations from the political action committees intent on influencing votes.”
