Fire that destroyed local resident Chris Rash's home on Thursday, November 20.

Longtime resident and former EMS Volunteer seeks help after destructive house fire

Chris Rash is one of those locals who is so intertwined with the community that it is impossible to list all the ways he has contributed over the decades. He volunteered for the local Custer County EMS around 2010, when the district was struggling to field medics to serve locals. He constantly put in 12-hour shifts to plug the many scheduling holes at the time. Many residents will also recognize that when he took over Jess-Price BBQ and Jess-Price Drywall from the beloved former Westcliffe Mayor.

But on November 20, Rash’s world literally exploded when a gas leak in his house caught fire. Rash was rushed to the hospital and thankfully was released with just a concussion and minor facial burns. However, the house was a complete loss, including his vehicles in the garage, the tools for his construction business, personal items, and, of course, irreplaceable momentos. Swift efforts from local emergency responders quickly contained the fire.

A GoFundMe has been created to help this community member rebuild his life and keep his construction business operational. For more information or to donate, click the following link. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-chris-rebuild-after-devastating-house-fire
