School Board Director Jennifer Kriegh resigns

On Monday, October 6 the Custer County School Board held a special meeting before their regular gathering to announce and accept the resignation of School Board Director Jennifer Kriegh.

Board President Reggie Foster read out Kriegh’s resignation letter:

“It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation from my position as Director of the Custer County School District Board of Education, effective immediately. Serving on this board has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. Being elected by the public and working alongside dedicated board members Reggie, Linda, Cameron, and John has been a privilege. Together, we face challenges, celebrated successes, and remain steadfast in our commitment to the students, staff, and families of the District. Over the past eight years, I’ve been proud to call this community home and to contribute to the shaping of a district that values education, excellence, and integrity The outstanding faculty and staff and students have inspired me daily, and I remain deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve. However, following the passing of my mother and ongoing family, medical and personal matters, I find myself unable to continue fulfilling the responsibilities this role demands.

This decision has not come easily, but I believe it is necessary to prioritize my family and personal well-being at this time. To the parents and teachers who actively engage in the direction of our District, thank you. Your involvement is the backbone of our success. To those in the community who may feel disheartened or disconnected from the District’s leadership, I encourage you to lean in, ask questions, and consider volunteering, change and understanding. Begin with participation.

I leave this role with immense respect for my fellow board members who continue to make difficult decisions guided by law, ethics, and a deep care for our community, even when those decisions come at a personal cost. Their strength and integrity deserve our support. Thank you for allowing me to serve. I remain committed to the values that brought me to this position and will continue to support our District in new ways as I navigate this next chapter.”

The rest of the board thanked her for her service and voted unanimously to accept her resignation. Kriegh is the second school board director to resign this year. Board Vice President Brad Davis resigned on May 5.
