Of Tornados, Smoke Palls, and 142 years of weekly printing in the Crestone Chronicles

Shanna Lewis had a strange experience when the tornado touched down last week, as she had just been organizing some old magazines. At random, she picked up a July 2014 edition of the Colorado Central Magazine and flipped to a random page with an article with a headline that read, “Mountain Tornadoes Rare but Not Unique.” The tornado touched down just to the northwest of her place; a “strange coincidence,” indeed.

Howdy to subscriber Jane Augustine in New York. She informs us that she likes to leave the Tribune out in the New York City subway after finishing it. It’s good to know we are well-read across the subway. She also informs us that they will miss eating at the Alpine Lodge, as it was a favorite every year when they came to visit.

The smoke pall was like an ordinary misty day in Seattle, according to one local resident. While we agree the visibility might have been that low, we think the smoke stung the eyes just a bit more.
