Fun and celebration events galore for the Fourth of July

 It is well known that the Fourth of July week­end is the true beginning of summer fun. And local organizations and businesses have really stepped it up with an extensive list of events this coming three-day weekend.

• On Thursday, July 3, Central Building Supply in Silver Cliff is holding a Customer Appreciation Day. This fantastic, locally owned hardware store will offer 5% off everything, plus burgers and brats from 12 to 6 p.m. Central Build­ing Supply is located at 705 Ohio Street in Silver Cliff.

• On Friday, July 4, All Aboard Westcliffe is having their excellent pancake breakfast at the Main Street Depot at 102 Main from 7 to 10 a.m. Just $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 10. In addition, they will have their stupendous flea market at 110 Rosita Ave from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 4 and July 5.

• The Fourth of July Parade starts on Main Street at 10 a.m. and is organized by the local American Legion Post 170 and Auxil­iary Unit 170.

• The Mortar Men will be holding a fireworks display visible from all of Silver Cliff and Westcliffe. Look to the northeast of town near the water towers at dusk.

• On Saturday, July 5, local Dark Skies is holding a solar observation at Bluff Park, located at the end of Main Street, from 11 a.m. to noon. And that same eve­ning, a free introduction to telescopes workshop will be held from 8:45 to 10:15 p.m.

• Greenstone Artworks is holding a reception for Impressionistic artist Lorie Merfeld-Batson on Satur­day, July 4, from 4-6 p.m. at their fine gallery at 100 Main Street.

• The Sangres Art Guild is hosting an open house spectacular featuring local art at the 3rd Street Gallery on Saturday, July 5, from 1 to 4 p.m.

• Karen LeBlond Fine Pottery will be having a sale with ridiculously low prices at the Historic Beckwith Ranch, six miles north of Westcliffe, all weekend.
