If fickle February weather is not your thing, chances are good youâll find something more to your liking at the Library. For instance, music! In a new partnership with the High Mountain Hay Fever Bluegrass Association, the Library will soon offer not just musical instruments for checkout but free music lessons too! Come hear all about it at a musical instrument âpetting partyâ on March 19 from 1-5 p.m. Every kind of bluegrass instrument will be on display and available to strum and pluck. Volunteers will be on hand to give micro lessons and answer questions. Best of all, ukuleles and fun âbanjo-ukesâ will be available for checkout on your library card, with information about how to get your free music lessons. Coming soon: community jam sessions on Sunday afternoons and, eventually, even performance opportunities!
You know what goes great with music? Pie. Once again, on March 14 (aka 3.14), the Library will hold our annual âPI dayâ fundraiser. This year, money will go to restocking and expanding our âLibrary of Things,â so there will be more fun gear for the community to check out for free. Donations of pies (store-bought or homemade, sweet or savory, traditional or special diet) will be received on March 13 and 14. Slices and whole pies will then be available for purchase in the community room. Come eat some pie so we can provide new fantastic resources in the year ahead!
Do you know what goes great with pie? Reading. And with the Adult Winter Reading program still going strong until March 29, itâs not too late to grab a bingo sheet at the front desk, explore the Library, or just mark off boxes for every 30 minutes you read. Gift cards for local treats are your reward!
Also rewarding are a slew of fascinating programs in the weeks ahead. Tuesday, March 11 at 10 a.m., explore a colorful way of understanding yourself and others with a presentation about personality types led by Lifeblu creator Lori Cimoch. Registration is recommended for this class. If mythology is more up your alley, youâll be fascinated by a presentation on the origins of Greco-Roman myths offered on Tuesday, March 18, at 10 a.m. by Ann Payton Wilson. A pantheon of gods was the ancient go-to for explaining the unexplainable. Come hear about the possible facts behind legends such as Circe, the Cyclops, fire-breathing dragons, and more.
If you prefer to solve puzzles in a more hands-on way, then come to the Jigsaw Puzzle Contest on Tuesday, March 25, at 1:30 p.m. Compete against other jigsaw junkies for the fastest assemblage time. Individuals and teams of two will battle it out over 2 hours for prizes and bragging rights! Later that same day, a small business workshop will be offered in the community room from 5-6 p.m.
But you donât have to wait until something is happening at the Library do stop by. Weâre always here to help you find what youâre looking for and to learn something new, no matter the weather.
