Mother/Baby Café & Writers Group special guest author

Rescheduled Event: The Writers Group Presents Special Guest Author Annie Dawid

The Writers Group presents special guest author Annie Dawid on Friday, February 9 at 2 p.m. in the Library Community Room. Annie will read excerpts from her latest novel Paradise Undone a Novel of Jonestown. In Paradise Undone, the author has written fictional accounts of a factual event. Her characters were all real people, although some of the names have been changed. Dawid offers up several perspectives of the event, sprinkled with actual quotes from Jim Jones. She offers a glimpse into the minds of those involved, and their stories are told based on the facts that she uncovered through decades of research. A light snack will be served.

Annie’s reading will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The event is free and open to the public.

Mother/Baby Café

Miranda Hanan is excited to be starting a Mother-Baby Café on the first and third Thursdays of each month, beginning February 1 in the West Custer County Library Community Room from 8 a.m. till 10 a.m. The Mother-Baby Cafe is a space for postpartum mothers (up to 12 months) to gather, connect, share stories and bond through the hardship and privilege of motherhood. Miranda will offer hands-on newborn support, postpartum education (including breastfeeding/baby wearing/belly binding/cloth diapering), nourishing snacks and coffee will be served. If you are not able to leave other children at home or with a loved one, a quiet activity will be provided for them. The heart of this group is to support the mother. Miranda is honored to begin this journey; it is her desire to serve with utmost excellence and she cannot wait to meet everyone in person.

Miranda is a mother, herbalist, postpartum doula and breastfeeding and lactation coach. She married her middle school sweetheart at 18 and immediately began taking Clinical Herbalism courses with a deep focus in whole-body Women’s Health. Miranda has served women for years in Des Moines, IA with everything from menstrual health/fertility/birth to in-home postpartum care and newborn support. She has been doing this work for nearly eight years and is extremely passionate about holding space and community for postpartum mothers.
