One of the local ballot questions for voters in Custer County this election season regards the elimination of the school election districts in Custer County. Currently, Custer County has five school board districts; each district has one member that sits on the school board. This year, the school board has asked the public if these districts should be eliminated n favor of what is called an “at-large” voting system. In an at-large district, any eligible citizen in Custer County can run for election, regardless of location within the county.
The Tribune invited two school board members to discuss the question and what their thoughts are about changing the district to at-large representation. The following are the opinions of each person and not of the school board as a whole.
