|The 5th annual Brew with a View beer and wine festival is set to kick off this Saturday, May 20, from 1 a.m. till 5 p.m. in downtown Westcliffe. This year Westcliffe is proud to welcome back some of its native sons and owners of the famous Black Shirt Brewery in Denver.
There are countless roots of the founding of Black Shirt Brewery located in Denver, but one of them resides in Westcliffe. The Miller Brothers, Branden and Chad brewers and owners of the brewery are Valley natives and a host of their friends from the Westcliffe area have helped, worked, or drunk their beer as the brewery developed over the decades. Campers, Schultzs, O’Conners, and a host of familiar Valley family names have been found in Denver enjoying the Miller’s fine brews.
Black Shirt’s beers are famous for their red color, complex flavor, and just plain old fashion tastiness. When the brewery started canning several years ago, local Vicki Holstad helped out the boys, and her son Aaron, by loading the pickup truck with beer and delivering to Antlers’ Liquor in Westcliffe. Holstad has been drafted into pouring drafts at the festival this weekend, giving locals a taste of a beer full of a Valley history.
In addition to Black Shirt, over 21 breweries and wineries will be pouring and showing off their wares to eager drinkers. A chili cook-off will provide food for the hungry masses and live music will liven up the conversations and tastings.
Plan on bringing warm clothes as the high for Saturday is forecast to be 50 degrees… but in Colorado that could mean sunshine and heat mixed with snowflakes, so prepare for hot and cold weather.
The cost of the festival is $25 and includes a complimentary glass while supplies last. For more information call 719-371-3208 or 719-783-2282. Please do not bring pets to the event.
