|The American Legion Post 170, Sons of The American Legion Squadron 170 and Auxiliary Unit 170 are presenting the 14th annual Memorial Day Observance at Silver Cliff Commemorative and Community Park in Silver Cliff on Monday, May 28, from 10 to 11 a.m.
The public is invited to attend this special occasion. This year’s observance includes a tribute to veterans who have served our country, who are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
The keynote speaker will be Chaplain (COL) Andrew S. Zeller (USAR Ret.) of rural Westcliffe.
Ceremonies at this year’s observance offer introduction, recognition and thanks to all veterans. Taps will be played and the Honor Guard will offer a three volley rifle salute followed by folding and placement of the flag.
The National Anthem and “Mansions of the Lord” will be presented by Don Paul, Ellen Paul, Don Pinnela, and Guy and Karen Madden. Following the ceremonies, refreshments will be served by Auxiliary Unit 170.
In the event of inclement weather, this event will be held at Custer County School in the east gym.

The Silver Cliff Park is located on the southern edge of town, south on French Street.
The solemn observance on Memorial Day is just one of the activities planned for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
--The annual Memorial Day parade will be held on Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m. along Highway 96 (Main Streets) in Westcliffe and Silver Cliff.
--Commencement exercises for the graduating seniors at Custer County High School will be held Sunday, May 27, at 2 p.m. in the school’s east gym.
--Many local shops and galleries have special events planned for the Memorial Day weekend, which kicks-off the summer tourist season in the Wet Mountain Valley.
